As I watched an actor perform, the Native American hoop dancer in Cirque du Soleil’s Totem seemed to morph into a graceful bird right before my eyes. I painted this vision using metallic leaf in the figure. A man moving from Washington DC to New York City bought this painting while it was still on my easel. As the figure appears to be an angel taking flight, and the painting left my studio quickly, I titled it Departure.
